What this is

Red Letter Live is free, open-source software released under the MIT License. It listens to live speech and displays the Bible passages it detects. Anyone may run, copy, modify, and redistribute it under the terms of that license.

No warranty, no liability

The software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the author (David Copercini) and contributors are not liable for any claim, damages, or other liability arising from the software or its use — including misdetected or missing Scripture references, service interruptions, third-party API costs, or any use of the software by people who download, fork, deploy, or modify it. You use it, and you allow others to view its output, entirely at your own risk.

Your responsibilities when you run it

Third-party services. The app can connect to the YouVersion Platform API, Tyndale's NLT API, Crossway's ESV API, AssemblyAI, and Gloo AI. If you configure API keys for these services, you are responsible for complying with each provider's terms, display requirements, and usage limits, and for any costs on your accounts.
Scripture licensing. Licensed translations carry display and attribution conditions (the app renders the required attribution automatically, and restricts publisher-licensed text from the OBS video overlay per fast-track license terms). Do not remove those notices. Public performance or broadcast of licensed translations may need permissions the software cannot grant you.
Consent for audio. You are responsible for obtaining any consent required in your jurisdiction before capturing a speaker's audio and sending it for transcription.
Lawful use. Don't use the software to infringe rights, break laws, or misrepresent its output.

No accounts, no payment

The software has no user accounts, collects no payment, and sells nothing. Whoever operates a deployment is solely responsible for that deployment.

Changes

These terms may be revised in the repository; the version in the codebase you run is the version that applies to that deployment.
